No More Massachusetts-Only Q-TIP Election

The Massachusetts legislature just eliminated the Massachusetts-only Q-TIP election effective August 1, 2025.
The language was made as part of the larger omnimbus state budget and tax legislation that also served in part to make some Massachusetts tax laws conform to federal law in the recent "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" passed by Congress.
The Massachusetts estate tax has been in legislative flux for some time. Two years ago, the legislature increased the Massachsuettes estate tax exemption from $1 million to $2 million.
